SWAP Africa was created to meet this need by offering a multi-currency wallet that allows users in Gabon to manage their everyday financial activities from one place. The project focused on building a seamless digital payment experience for individuals and small businesses who wanted a faster alternative to traditional financial services. The goal was to remove common barriers such as lengthy processes, limited accessibility, and dependence on physical banking locations.

By creating a mobile-first platform, SWAP Africa made it easier for users to handle transactions, access digital payment services, and manage their money with greater convenience. The project contributes to the growing adoption of digital finance in Gabon while helping more people participate in the country's evolving financial ecosystem.

Building a Seamless eWallet Experience for Modern Financial Needs

SWAP Africa was designed to give users a simple way to manage payments, transfers, and everyday financial transactions. By bringing key financial services together in one platform, the app delivers a smooth and convenient digital payment experience.

Project Idea

The client wanted a mobile wallet that actually worked for this market. Not a product designed for somewhere else and adapted. A product built for this region from day one. One app where anyone in CEMAC or UEMOA can open a digital account, hold local currency, get a free Visa card, and pay or send money across borders.

Project Challenges

There was no ready API for card issuance. No simple IBAN provider. No existing agent banking system we could plug into. We had to build or partner for almost everything. And every piece had to work on an affordable Android phone with a 3G connection, in areas where power and signal are unreliable.

Project Results

SWAP Africa is live across its target markets. Over 3,000 people joined the waitlist before the public launch. The ECOBANK Gabon partnership is live. Virtual Visa cards are issued instantly on KYC completion. Physical cards are delivered within 24 hours. SWAP Africa has reached a valuation of over $1.2 million. Agent Network for Cash-In & Cash-Out

Local agents accept cash and credit user multi-currency wallets in real time with SWAP Africa. Transactions reconcile in under two seconds. Offline mode queues actions when the signal drops and syncs automatically when the connection returns.

Free Visa Card & IBAN Access

A virtual Visa card is issued free on KYC completion. A physical card arrives in 24 hours via ECOBANK Gabon. Every verified user also gets a real IBAN, the first time most of them can receive international bank transfers.

Cross-Border Payments Across 14 Countries

A currency routing layer handles XAF and XOF automatically. Users just type a phone number and an amount. The system handles the zone detection, ledger routing, and settlement behind the scenes.
